Process

Project 1 - 3D Logos

For our first project in 3D Graphics, we took an already existing 2D logo and made it 3D. We started by identifying issues, causes, and areas of interest that we are passionate about. Then we reflected and wrote about why one particular area is personally significant. We then researched organizations or businesses that are connected to and support one or more of those areas we selected. Acting as graphic designers doing volunteer work to support a meaningful cause, we redesigned their already existing 2D logo as a 3D graphic - free of charge!

In order to complete the construction of a newly created 3D graphic, we used skills we learned to build the submarine exercise, which included primitive shapes, splines, shape expanders, and shape deformers.  Lastly, we learned how to add color, materials, and lighting to make the new logo more contemporary.

Project 2 - Snowglobe

For our second project, we created snowglobes in Cinema 4D. This project focused largely on the use of materials like glass, metal, etc and how to use simulation tags to speed up animation. For this project, I first made a house on an island in space but couldn't think of a way to animate it that I would find interesting so I changed my design to be of a UFO flying through space. This new idea allowed me to learn about visible light in C4D and how to animate movement in a way that felt more organic.

Project 3 - Scooter

Originally, I was modeling a pretty normal scooter using a reference image. After completing my initial model I decided on a final idea: a motorcycle-esque scooter with dark exhaust revving its engine. A new tool I really enjoyed using in this project was the PyroCluster tool, which creates realistic looking gas.

Project 4 - Cuckoo Clock

Instead of modeling a traditional cuckoo clock I modeled a large urban building with a glowing clock. I chose to use the same PyroCluster tool as the last project to model gas coming out of the cuckoo clock door.

Project 5 - Gratitude Gift

For my 3D printed gratitude gift, I chose to make a reading light/bookmark for my mom because it is small enough to print while still functional. At first, I wanted to decorate it with images I drew from our favorite boks to read together when I was younger, but due to the scale limitations of 3D printing, I decided that it would be better to leave it blank. Another big challenge was scaling all of the components correctly so that two LEDs, a battery, and a switch could be fitted inside the device.

NOTE: Due to the 3D printer not working this project was never completed and does not appear on the "Final Projects" page but would ideally look like the rendering with the black background.

Project 6 - Yayoi Kosuma

First, we created textures in photoshop to use on our projects. The top line of images is comprised of the textures I chose not to use from that class. For my first room, I tried to create a confusing layout and had the camera quickly move through it. At the end of the video, the room, including the sky at the top of it, begins to shatter. The second room is a bright white cylinder with wood walls and a column of water in the center that bubbles rise up in. In this room, the camera is animated to rotate in a circle while always pointing towards the central.
